Ryan Odendaal is an Educational Psychologist who provides a compassionate, non-judgmental space for adolescents and families, with particular experience supporting adolescent boys.
Ryan has worked in education for 14 years and has substantial experience counselling adolescent boys. His professional path has included teaching and a background in sport, which informed his interest in sport psychology.
His practice focuses on helping adolescents recognise their strengths, understand the challenges they are experiencing, and develop a way forward at their own pace. Sessions are available both in person in Johannesburg and online.
Ryan also provides psycho-educational assessments tailored to IEB and GDE accommodation criteria.

Ryan primarily uses Person-Centred Talk Therapy, grounded in empathy and unconditional positive regard. The first session is used to understand the individual's journey and identify an approach suited to their needs and South African context.
His work can also integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Expressive Arts. Sport and movement are incorporated into his broader view of wellbeing and growth.
